Town of Blackstone Schwartz Tavern Roof Replacement
Blackstone, VA
Schwartz Tavern is one of the finest surviving examples of a late 1700s dwelling and the Town of Blackstone's oldest building. After signs of water infiltration appeared, Raymond was engaged to design and administer construction for a full roof replacement. Assessment found the existing 25-year-old cedar shingle roof had no ventilation beneath it, no drip edge flashing at the gable edges, and undersized copper flashing. The new design integrates a ventilation mat below the shingles, fully adhered underlayment over the wood deck, 20-ounce copper flashing, copper drip edges, valley and step flashing, and copper chimney caps. Fire-treated cedar shingles preserve the historic appearance and carry a 30-year warranty.
