Jack Tar Hotel

Built in 1962, the Jack Tar Hotel opened with 100 rooms, a rooftop swimming pool, restaurant and parking garage, and was considered the peak of modernity. However, in 2011, the hotel was listed as endangered by Preservation Durham, which listed it among the city’s Places in Peril. As part of its rehabilitation, Raymond performed quality assurance reviews of the drawing and specifications and performed construction site observation, visits, and testing in regard to the building envelope assemblies.

Raymond provided drawings and specifications for the new elevator pit, water testing of existing windows and recommendations, QA reviews of the swimming pool plaza, and designed the new liquid applied waterproofing system for the plaza.
